'Truth' 'Accountability' Top List Of Words Removed From Oxford English Dictionary
Each year the Oxford English Dictionary adds hundreds of words to its print edition and removes hundreds of others. Each year brings new ideas, slang, and popular culture phrases. To make room for the words that qualify, some archaic words are subtracted to make room. This year the list of words being dropped from the renowned lexicon are troubling. Here are the top 10 deleted words.
Roger Heinrich, an editor at the Oxford says that some words in the english language have apparently run their course. "And there is the reality that some words have died in practice as well. Who are we kidding to include words like truth and responsibility when they have all but been extracted from everyday life? We can pronounce the words. But they are rarely said and basically never practiced anymore. It would be like a map showing an address that doesn't exist anymore, or an automobile dealer stocking chariots on his lot. What's the point?"
