Seminary Student With "Man Bun" Loses Faith After Inability To Change Tire

Lash Campbell, a junior at Bedford Theological Seminary is having a crisis of faith after a recent episode showed some cracks in his belief system. He has been spending some intense study time in the book of Judges, and wanted the power and direction in his own life that he saw in the lives of those men and women who served as God's leaders to pre-kingdom Israel.

Late one night after reading through the whole book, he decided to put action to his desire. He combined a couple of the accounts and asked God to show Him that He was real in his life. He promised to grow out his hair as a fleece before the Lord. I was vulnerable and authentic before God that night. I said, 'If your word is true, then give me supernatural strength like Sampson as I grow my hair out.' So, I let it grow. Within about a month I had a nice little man bun. I hadn't actually been tested, but I was feeling spiritually pumped about the whole process."

About 7 weeks after making the deal with God, Lash was driving home from the latest Thor movie when he had a flat tire on his Prius. He pulled over to the side of the road, pulled up a How-To video on YouTube, and went to the rear of the car to get the equipment out. He had never changed a tire before, but was feeling pretty confident. Then it happened. "I tried to twist off the little spinny thing to loosen the tire from its position. I guess it is a screw of some sort that holds the spare tire in place. It wouldn't budge. I called out to God to give me strength. I was spitting on it to loosen it up. I hit it with my fist. I went and sipped my mocha latte for a few minutes, checked my instagram, and tweeted out that I needed my friends to send up prayers and Jesus vibes. Then I went to the back of the car and then tried it again. Nothing. I ended up calling a tow truck."

Ever since that night, Lash has been wavering in his faith. He just doesn't understand how God can help a man in the Bible kill Philistines, but abandon him when he needs to change a tire. "Jesus said that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we could move mountains. I had faith the size of an organic granola bar that night, and I couldn't turn a bolt thingy. I'm just struggling in a dark place right now. #AllTheFeels"
