Rob Bell Claims Billy Graham Limited His Impact By Preaching About Hell
Rev. Billy Graham passed away earlier this year. It has been said he preached the gospel to more people than anyone in history. Most people would be pleased to have left such a legacy. But progressive religious guru Rob Bell wonders if Graham limited his reach by including an emphasis on Hell in his preaching. Is it possible Graham left millions of souls on the table by preaching about Hell?
Bell has been discouraging belief in a place of eternal judgment and torment for nearly a decade. He has this to say about Rev. Graham's approach, "I am not trying to diminish the hundreds of millions of people Billy Graham preached to over the course of 70 years. I know he traveled to every corner of the world and offered Jesus Christ and eternal life to people even in communist countries. That's wonderful. But he did preach about Hell as the consequence for rejecting Christ. I wonder how many more people he could have won to grace if he hadn't manipulated people with the doctrine of Hell. Sure, most people do not want to live forever in excruciating pain. But there are some others who just want to have some peace in the hell they are going through right now. At every crusade he would talk about Hell and the altars would fill up. Millions of people accepted Christ during those invitations. But I often ponder what could have been."
Personally, Bell claims that he is filling up coffee house after coffee house with his 'Hell-free' message of love and acceptance.
