Mom Receives Cease And Desist Letter After Repeatedly Telling 'Dad Jokes'
Laura Zinn loves her husband and her children. When it comes to family, she is all in. But she doesn't quite understand boundaries and roles. She thinks her husband is hilarious, and always laughs a little too much at his jokes. That wouldn't be so bad... but she has been taking it too far. We sat down and talked to Laura to get the whole story.
A few weeks ago she was engaged in a conversation on Facebook when she let an inappropriate joke slip through. It was a 'dad joke.' She was immediately reprimanded by her friends. She was reported to Facebook, and the dad joke was removed. Then a few days later she posted another one. This time she received a 'cease and desist' letter from a legal office representing The Fatherhood Foundation.
"I was shocked," recalls Laura. "I was just telling one of the jokes my husband Jim tells the kids. They roll their eyes, but I can't stop laughing. There was nothing dirty about the joke. I just don't know."
Jim and the kids are not surprised. "We've been telling her that she should be more careful with what she posts on the internet. We have tried to explain to her that moms are not licensed to tell 'dad jokes.' She told a few at home and on road trips, and we told her that it was inappropriate. But she just wouldn't stop... and here we are."
Laura is now seeking help. "I thought about it. I didn't want to be arrested. I mean, imagine if I was thrown into jail and started telling dad jokes." She pauses and giggles. "You know what they would call it? Yep... the hokey pokey." Laura slaps her knee and starts to laugh... then stops and covers her mouth. "Please don't include that in the story."
