Man Who Can't Remember Names Of 12 Disciples Discovers Gift For Knowing Real-Time Fantasy Football Stats

Philip Traybaugh is a Christian man who has trouble memorizing Christian things. Like most people, he struggles to remember the books of the Bible. Luckily he remembers where the table of contents is and that helps him navigate during preaching. He has never been able to memorize Scripture, though he does know that the Bible says, "You shouldn't judge," and "God is love."

Traybaugh explains, "I've just never been good at memorizing things in the Bible. I have tried a couple of times. But I just can't. I don't know the 12 tribes of Israel, or the 12 disciples. I can't remember how many days it rained during the Flood or how long Jesus was dead. These things just elude me. I mean, I listen on Sundays, but I just can't remember it all."

Ironically, Philip does seem to have a knack for remembering real-time statistics for as many as 100 football players. "I don't know. Maybe God just gave me the specific fantasy football gift so I could share the Gospel in my leagues. But I have instant recall of probably thousands of numbers. I personally have four teams, each with 16 players. I have to know what they are doing on a weekly basis so I know who to start. I probably spend 2 hours a day studying injury reports and scouting reports to know which direction to go on any given Sunday. So not only am I aware of the statistics of 50-60 of my players... but I also need to know the same statistics about 50 top players in case I need to make trades. But yeah... I have thousands of changing stats cataloged away to be grabbed at any moment. It is probably why I win most of my leagues every year."

Traybaugh is not alone. It is estimated that as many as 60% of men in the Church today can tell you exactly how many yards their seven receivers accumulated last season but cannot list the nine parts of the Fruit of the Spirit. But to be fair, knowing the Fruit of the Spirit won't matter when it is playoff time. As Philip says, "I would probably mix up the fruit of the spirit with the seven deadly sins. To some people that is as bad as starting the wrong kicker on Sunday. I just have to trust that God knows where my heart is."
