Man Has Difficulty Finding Labor Day Card To Show Appreciation To Mom For Giving Birth
Greg Yates isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he loves holidays, and he loves his mother. So Labor Day is his favorite. On this day he gets to thank his mother for giving birth to him 28 years ago.
"I think it is spectacular that we have a day set aside to honor those women who endure hours of labor," says Greg. "I'm obviously no woman, but I can appreciate the struggle. I think they deserve their own day. I always love telling my mom 'Happy Labor Day.' I know there is 'Mother's Day,' but Labor Day seems more specific."
One thing does frustrate Yates. "Every year I have the hardest time finding cards for Labor Day. I go to Dollar General, Walmart, and even Hallmark. They are always out. I need to begin looking earlier. This year I started looking in June and they were already sold out. So I usually end up making my own card to give to her. It takes me about 14 minutes. But she was in labor with me for 14 hours... so I don't complain."
It turns out Yates is not alone. The day before Labor Day, stores are full of men looking for that special card to give to their mother or wife. This is a market that is apparently untapped.
