Local Woman Distressed To Learn That Destruction Is A "God Thing" Too
Ever since Rachael Stevenson was a little girl she remembers people giving God praise for His works in their lives. If someone who couldn't have a child had a baby, "It was a God thing." If a person got a job that paid more money, "It was a God thing."
Apparently, a 'God thing' is a good thing that God does. Specifically it is something God does that we didn't expect to happen. So, last week when Rachael was at Starbucks and they spelled her name right, she immediately posted a pic to Instagram #ItWasAGodThing.
She did not expect her world to be rocked so hard this week. She was reading her Bible through in a year with some friends and couldn't stop. "With nearly every scroll of the page I learned about other things God did that were unexpected. Like the Great Flood, and Destroying Sodom & Gomorrah, turning Lot's wife into a Pillar Of Salt, and Killing The Firstborn of every Egyptian. That's just in the first two books. I couldn't believe it. Each of those was 'a God thing.'"
Stevenson also found things in the New Testament that she would not consider 'God things.' "He killed a couple while they were giving their offering. He struck a man blind while a missionary was spreading the good news. It has changed my view of God. I'm more than a little disappointed. But I do feel blessed that He only does good things in my life. Once I met a great guy at the dog park, and within two weeks he proposed to me. That was a God thing. But then a few months later I found out he didn't go to church, and he found another girlfriend. That was obviously another God thing. So I don't know about the God of the Bible doing bad 'God things,' but I do like it that my God does great 'God things.'"
