LifeWay Offers Pumpkin Spice Wafers For Hipster Church Communion
LifeWay, which supplies Sunday School material and every church resource you can imagine has added a seasonal communion element. Churches can now purchase pumpkin spice wafers to use in their Fall communion services.
Suzie Womack, head of the Worship Development division says that while this new product may not be for every church, there is a niche market opening up to premium elements. “We expect to sell a lot of these to hipster church plants. They are tired of the old ways. They like to ‘spice’ up the church experience. So this is right up their alley.”
Pastor Greg Neville thinks this will be a hit at his church (Directions Church) which will be launching on Sunday, October 7. “What better way to introduce people to a new way of doing communion than by offering a seasonal approach? Most of our attendees are cool millennials. They are used to trendy things, This is a way we can combine their passion for trendy with an old practice. We think it just freshens up something that is otherwise a morbid experience. Also, our Minister of Refreshments thought it may be nice to serve the wafers at our coffee bar. She said grape juice and pumpkin spice aren’t exactly a hit together. The last thing we want is pre-saved people leaving and not coming back because the flavor combo of the communion elements was not spot on.”
