Lakewood Church Replaces Joel Osteen's Pulpit With Cherry Picker
The creative worship team at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas recently gave the platform a makeover. They removed the pulpit and replaced it with an industrial strength cherry picker. This remodel is not for a sermon series, but rather to help with the branding of Osteen's style of preaching.
Julie Bradford, pastor of creative arts explains, "We've been listening to Pastor Joel preach over the last several years, and he does such a great job of picking and choosing verses that encourage people to be all they can be. That's not an easy task. There is a lot of negativity in the Bible. We brainstormed how we could reflect his preaching style in the decor on the stage. Our facilities manager suggested he preach from a cherry picker. It just made sense, and I felt like it was an absolutely anointed idea."
In a recent sermon about the life of David, Osteen showed his ability to drop below the verses about holiness and personal accountability and smoothly rise to the passages that expound upon the blessing that took David from being a lowly shepherd to being a king. "It was impressive how he maneuvered through the Bible with that machine, "says Lakewood attendee Howard Potter. "The way he was bobbing and weaving around the context, I just couldn't stop listening."
