Gospel Singer Promotes New Single - "It's Not About Me"
Trevor Matthews is an up and coming Southern Gospel singer with smooth vocal quality and a solid range. He came to Christ while in college and turned his musical ability into a ministry. Starting out at local churches and county fairs, Matthews made some connections and was able to produce a CD with four songs to hand out to those who may enjoy his music.
Recently his title cut, "It's Not About Me" started getting some attention. One of his fans made a video, posted it to YouTube, and now has over 350 views. So when The Singing News had its annual, "Take It To The Top" promotion, Trevor knew it was a "God thing."
Matthews explains, "I've really been trying to promote my latest song, 'It's Not About Me.' But it isn't easy to get noticed in this market. This contest is just what I needed. Basically, you do a social media blitz and get your family, friends, fans, and followers to vote for you. At the end of the month, they see which artist has the most votes, and they do a full article about the artist. I think it is going well. I created this graphic with my picture and the phrase, 'Take Me To The Top - It's Not About Me, by Trevor Matthews.' I'm plastering it all over Instagram, Facebook, and MySpace. I even sign the phrase on my merch after concerts. I'm excited. You never know where God will take things if you just get yourself out of the way, you know?"
Matthews is claiming the contest in Jesus' name, and can't wait to see how far the song about humility takes him.
