FOX News Changes Slogan From "Most Watched, Most Trusted" To "The President's Most Favorite"
FOX News has gone through a makeover the last couple of years. From leadership scandals to on-air personality scandals, the supposedly conservative based news outlet has come off as anything but conservative. In 2017 they changed their long-running slogan from "Fair And Balanced" to "Most Watched, Most Trusted" to distance itself from the misdeeds of its leaders during that era. But this week the news channel changed its slogan again.
Sean Hannity, probably the biggest on-air personality at FOX declared on his show, "We are now 'FOX News - The President's Most Favorite News Source.' I like it. I mean, I think it is honest. I think it reflects the idea that we are doing news right and the fake outlets like CNN and MSNBC... and really everyone else is doing it wrong. And it must be obvious. No other news organization has ever received so much praise from a President. Well, not from an American president. Obviously you would get these kind of marks in Russia, North Korea, Iran, etc. when their leader is pleased. But never in American history has a leader been so clear that one news agency is right so often."
Hannity is right. There has never been a President who has promoted a news channel as much as Donald Trump has promoted FOX News. Some suggest he is on the payroll. Others suggest they are on the administration's payroll. Either way, Trump's promotional tweets have landed him on FOX programs quite regularly, which is interesting since the President doesn't really do press conferences.
The slogan change comes soon after the passing of longtime conservative writer, commentator, and regular FOX news contributor Charles Krauthammer. Krauthammer was known by those on the left and right for his fair approach to people and situations. And as he was no fan of Obama or Hillary because of their ideologies, he was also no fan of Trump for a variety of reasons. But he was a regular on FOX. And it was likely only his presence that kept the network from changing the slogan sooner, as he was the only actual conservative on FOX News.
Hannity adds, "I'm sort of disappointed that they didn't go with my slogan recommendation... 'Fox News - The President's Sycophantic Lapdogs.".' Sure, it is strong... but it is accurate. But I was overruled, primarily because the brass didn't want our viewers to have to reach for a dictionary. It took me a few days to deal with the rejection. But President Trump took me on a weekend getaway. We had a few good laughs and cries. He promised to come on my show later this month, and I got over it."
Upon hearing the new slogan, Trump tweeted, "I think it is phenomenal. Those are great people. They treat me so well. I feel spoiled by their coverage. I think I'll have them write my Presidential biography. Tough journalists... hugely tough. They are certainly MAGA... not like the failing NY Times & Fake News CNN. I am proud of them for winning my Presidential endorsement."
