Comedian Tim Hawkins Loses Dove Awards Hosting Gig After Lutheran-phobic Jokes Surface
The Dove Awards has announced that Christian comedian Tim Hawkins will not be hosting the 2019 awards show after footage has surfaced of him making fun of Lutherans as well as other Christian groups and practices. The annual production which highlights achievements in the Christian entertainment industry had originally picked the ever-popular Hawkins to bring some comedic energy to the popular show.
But late last week some old footage of Hawkins surfaced that caused the Dove Awards organizers to rethink their choice of host. In the video shot by someone in the audience, Hawkins who was apparently at a church was performing a little dance and called it the “Lutheran twerk.” He then went on to exaggerate the dance. Some have called it a clear case of Lutheran-phobia. Tim’s fans say that those who find fault with the joke need to get a life.
The Lutheran-shaming clip is apparently only the tip of the scandalous iceberg. Upon reviewing other clips of Tim’s shows it has been discovered that he also makes fun of other denominations, strange worship habits, culture in general, and even homeschoolers. Ironically, Tim and his wife homeschool their own children, and for some reason the larger homeschooling subculture absolutely loves Tim’s comedy. Some suggest that homeschoolers are so backward that they don’t know they are the butt of the jokes.
Unverified Source asked Hawkins for a statement, and he sent back the following message that he said his fans would appreciate…
“Regarding the current situation, I would say, ‘This is the worst!’”
