Church Busybody Runs For County Office Register Of Deeds
Sister Marlene Haywood has been a member of Greenwood Holiness Church since 1967. She has served in nearly every capacity. She is a faithful attendee, and a solid tither. She considers this her family, and her church. And well, that's part of the problem. While she is super friendly, she is also what some would call a 'busybody.' It is past being nosey. She makes it her mission to know everything about everybody.
Recently Marlene tossed her name in the hat for a county government job. "I have never run for a political office of any kind," reflects Haywood. "But then I was reading the local paper and they said the current Register of Deeds would not be seeking the office again. I looked at the title and thought, 'I can do that job. I already do that job.' I know about everyone... the good and the bad. It is so natural, I think it is a gift. Some people say I am a busy body. I don't know. But I do know that I can't sit still when stuff is happening."
Her family and friends agree she is perfect for the role. They say no one knows more about what everyone is doing than Sister Marlene. Her pastor smiles and says, "She knows every deed. And believe me... she registers every deed of everyone she knows. So why not make it official and let her do it for the whole county?"
Believe it or not, members at Greenwood Holiness are hoping she wins. As her Sunday School teacher Elbert Frank says, "If she is busy keeping up with everyone else's deeds, perhaps she will not be so busy around here."
