Bitterly Divided And Violently Angry Nation Spends Part Of Holiday Kind Of Giving Thanks
No one would argue that this is a difficult time for America. But even on the cusp of anarchy, Americans on both sides of the war pause to give thanks. Today one of our reporters talked to a couple of sisters who are sharing Thanksgiving Day together with their family. Sally is a registered Republican, and Suzie is a registered Democrat. Both are heavily engaged in social media and are very vocal about their beliefs. Like much of the nation, today they have put their feelings aside to act like they enjoy being with each other.
Sally spends most days posting links to Matt Walsh articles, FOX news videos, and inflammatory right-wing memes that bear no resemblance to the truth, but are perfect for solidifying those who want to believe that the Left is the political arm of Satan. Her favorites are those that show Trump as a partner with Jesus trying to restore America as a good hero would. But really any false representation of an Obama or Hillary story will do. She enjoys calling liberals “mentally ill”… even if she doesn’t believe in mental illness. She expects people to act civilized and respect those with whom they disagree… even though she voted for Donald Trump. She hates the way America is, and is offended when downtrodden foreigners want to partake.
Suzie spends most of her days posting links to Huff Post articles, CNN videos, and inflammatory left-wing memes that bear no resemblance to the truth, but are perfect for solidifying those who want to believe that the Right is the political offspring of Hitler. Her favorites are those that show Trump as a Nazi orangutan trying to destroy America. She enjoys calling conservatives “racist”…. even if they are black conservatives. She expects free healthcare, college education, and birth control… but she wants conservatives to pay for it. She hates the American way, but is offended when foreigners are not allowed to enjoy it.
But on this day of giving thanks, all of that goes away… sort of. Today, as they finished the family prayer at the table, Sally posted to Facebook, “I am thankful that we live in the best country ever… and that because of our new President, people are saying, ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ again.”
Suzie posted to her Instagram, “I am thankful that we can enjoy time with family and friends… and are not stuck in some I.C.E. cage on the border.”
Meanwhile, their brother, Sammy gets the stink eye from both of them because each believes his vote could have made the difference in their favor if he didn’t have such high ideals..
The pilgrims and indians never had it so good. Happy Thanksgiving!
