Babylon Bee Exposed As Actual News Source Posing As Satire Site

For several years The Babylon Bee has been regularly posting real news articles and claiming they were satirical stories. What started as a Christian response to The Onion, has become a trusted news outlet with more credibility than CNN and FOX News. Sometimes the Bee contributors have played a little loose with the facts, ostensibly to retain some credibility as a satire factory. But overall, it appears they were just a straight-forward legitimate news organization.

Although they blurred the lines on occasions and flew under the radar, there were always signs of their true motives, and some of their avid followers picked up on it. The ruse began to unravel when Christians would post links to Bee stories on their personal social media pages. These insightful Christians like James Rogers would often catch flak from some of their incredulous friends.

“I would link to a Babylon Bee article, and then some friends would immediately comment that it was 'not a real news article,'” says Rogers. “I think they were probably right sometimes, but the articles were close enough to true that their opposition didn’t really phase me.”

It wasn’t just on individual social media pages where we found evidence that The Babylon Bee was being exposed. Even on its own Facebook page, it has become common for readers to comment on new articles with phrases like, “I thought this was supposed to be a satire site,” and “Not satire.”

In a world where fake news passes itself off as real news, The Bee has seen a meteoric rise by passing real news off as fake news. It is a fascinating strategy, and one that has certainly found traction among those who are looking for real fake news that they can believe in.
